iPhone X – Key changes and impact on development

With it’s 10th anniversary Apple has launched a range of new phones and apple watch series and everyone is excited and wants to have a first hand on it. As always it seems that this is better than the previous ones, has more advanced features, better display, security etc.  For the first time iPhone ‘X’  pronounced as ‘iPhone Ten’ comes with  the OLED display, it measures 5.8-inches, with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels.

Say goodbye to your ever favorite home button, it is said that the design is more intuitive to use with raise-to-wake or just tap the screen and get started. It supports wireless charging and has FaceID for unlocking the phone, Apple claims that it works in night as well and is powered by TrueDepth camera system on the front and thus just a glance of your face and it will illuminate your face ready for an infrared camera to identify. Another good news is that it is water and dust resistant (let’s see how much).

It’s not long before these new phones will be in market and the Apple lovers would want to have a first feel of it,  the pre-orders are expected to start on October 27th and we believe that people will be in line prior to that. While it is good and exciting that new Apple devices are coming what does that do to your existing apps or new app development plans, well the answer is simple the existing apps will work in the same way but will have to be maintained and upgraded to support the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X,  as per the screen design the UI will have to be adjusted, some images and icons will have to be designed fresh so that it works well on new phones as well. The code and library shall be updated so that it supports the latest OS versions and does not give error or performance issues while using on phones with latest OS versions. For the new apps, well your developer will have to consider the latest phone options now before planning the development and the testing should be carried out on new phones as well so that any target audience is not missed. With launch of every new device some changes are expected in coding and updating of your existing apps and we as developers are always are always looking forward to it.
